Updates Diary

This is where I will post details of the updates posted on the site, so check here for all the latest news. I've worked hard to get the site up and running but it may be a few days until I start getting the main content posted. The forum is open now though, so please get yourself registered and start posting your topics in there right away, nothing like a busy forum to keep everyone interested. I am going to transfer some of the threads from the Yahoo group into there as an archived record.

6th January, 2007

As promised, here is the first draft of the 2006 NFL season cards (just) in time for the post season to begin. I'll repost them after the Superbowl with any necessary changes based on the post season results, plus include any fixes or problems that might be discovered! Please feel free to point out any problems you find with the cards, or suggestions you might have. I've included all the usual files, it's less than 1 MB to download and there's a page explaining the format of the cards and any rules tweaks you might need to know (mostly optional). I've also now found a potential supplier of card stock with perforations to match the official Statis Pro card sheets, and will let you know when I sort that out - if it works out, that will allow us to print directly to cards that can be nicely and easily detached rather than cut out with scissors! I've also got the 5th Edition rules typed up to post - Tom Cundiff did the legwork on that one, will update that shortly. Cheers! and happy playoffs to you all

Don't forget that I have posted Jim Gordon's advanced solitaire system which you can use to call both defensive AND offensive plays, and is much more advanced and varied than the solitaire calls you find on the FAC deck. [Solitaire Page]

Posted due to popular demand, some files for the ABC continuation of the Statis Pro line, the Tabletop Football series (TTF), which extended the cards and rules - I've now added the very latest set of rules which were going to be released before the game was discontinued (8th Edition) plus the play calling charts which are similar to the ones used in SPF.

I finished the 1980 set that Allen Iott did most of the transcription work. Really excellent work Allen, didn't find any glitches other than missing WR Jerry Butler in Buffalo. Let me know if any of you eagle eyed enthusiasts spot any errors, and I'll try to get them fixed as soon as possible. For now though, that's a good weekend's work - two official set releases finally polished off and put out in PDF form for you to print out and enjoy.

25th August , 2006

Well after a very quiet time on the site, I finally got round to finishing off the 1983 Official Set as part of the Statis Pro typing pool project. Thanks go to Peter Tsang and Matthew Brolarksi who did help with some of the cards, though most of them were typed up by myself on this occasion. Also, many thanks to DiceQ and to Dan Manning who helped me with some cards I seemed to be missing, and verifying that other cards weren't present in the set. it does seem like a buggy release with a few big name players missing, hopefully I've managed to put them all back in by using their real stats in 1983 to create their card. Let me know if you find any obvious howlers in the set, and please do enjoy printing out and using the cards, I've done the usual job on them, and included team covers and logos from 1983, a really exciting year, which saw one of the great Redskins teams come within a whisker of a perfect season only to be crushed in the Superbowl by an inspired Raiders team (and losing two regular season games by just 1 point). Ah well, perhaps in a Statis Pro replay, things will turn out differently!

Speaking of which, I will be posting details of Dan Mannings amazing 1983 replay on this site soon - it's taken him and his friends 20 years (!!!) to replay EVERY SINGLE game from the 1983 season, and they've just recently made the playoffs (good news, the Redskins after a sluggish start finished with 6 straight wins to make the post season). It was clear the rules weren't good in this edition as the interception numbers are a little insane, but it's an amazing thing that Dan has done, and kept stats and results for everything, so that will be great to have on the site to look at, and I hope to have full coverage of his 1983 post season.

By the way, I fixed some of the glitches from the last 2005 set, but I need to rejig things for next year, perhaps reformat the cards a little.

Next up is the 1980 season that Allen Iott typed in for me, hopefully you won't have to wait too long for that one, and that will make us halfway there with 6 out of the 12 official seasons finished!

Oh, and I really must bring you up to speed with the UK Statis Pro League that I'm in as we head to our 2004 Draft Season....... I've been very busy in the front office of the Yorkshire team!

PS - archive the old news again when I get time!

19th February, 2006

A very quick update as I'm in a rush! Will update more next weekend. For now, I've added the version 1 release of my 2005 NFL season cards - hope you enjoy them and like the new features and format. Please read the text file in the zip for more details, and let me know if you find any big mistakes in there.

16th October- 2005

At long last, the Statis Pro Project is back underway, and I've gotten round to releasing three more official season sets, typed in by hand from the official card sets and then converted to my database format and run through my own custom card creator. What you get with each download is a set of PDF's with every official card recreated exactly, to complete your collection. I'd already released the 1984 cards, and will be doing the 1980 and 1983 set very shortly, which will complete SIX of the TWELVE official season sets. I'll be rounding up my helpers again and am always looking out for helpers to complete the project of getting every NFL season set up on this site for free download. I do hope you enjoy the cards, they're especially good for the Redskins fans, as we won the Superbowl in those 1987 and 1991 seasons.

Remember, the more people that help, the easier and quicker the project is, so if you have the 1981, 1982, 1985, 1986, 1988 or 1990 official Statis Pro cards please let me know if you're willing to help out with typing up the cards into an excel or word template. You'll be fully credited for your help.

13th October- 2005

Well, can you believe it's been more than six months since I updated this site! I've been really busy at work though, so have not had as much free time as I would have liked over the summer. Anyway, you'll be glad to know I'm back in action and hoping to knock out a fair few updates over the coming weeks as the 2005 NFL Season plays its way out. I have made some fixes to the 1985 USFL Cards which had some of the receiving columns the wrong way round. I've also updated the 2004 season cards to reflect the results of the post season in terms of big plays and team rankings. A bit overdue on that one!

The first major update is that I've finally gotten round to finishing Kevin Handley's 1972 NFL Season Cards. Kevin did all the hard work on the stats and data and actually created some of the card lines too, I just had to finish off some of the skill and special teams players, and run them through the card maker to get a nice set of PDF's which I'm sure you'll enjoy, and be sure to thank Kevin with a message in the forum. Kevin is hard at work with Darren Jones now, looking to put together a huge NCAA college football teams set which looks very exciting and should be really popular. The 1972 NFL Season was of course the year of the Perfect 17-0 Dolphins so maybe you'll enjoy replaying that season and see if you can match Don Shula's incredible record.

I now have to get to work on Allen Iott's XFL Season set that he sent me, along with the 2003 and 2004 NFL Europe Season sets too. Allen's another bloke who works tirelessly to create cards for you all to enjoy and I hope you appreciate his efforts as much as I do.

For my own part, I'll be keeping tabs on the 2005 season in order to put out a season set during the postseason, and I will try to publish the official 1980's season sets over the coming months, I have at least half of them done and ready to be "carded up", which will be a big boost to the site, and then we can get cracking on the missing seasons. I also aim to convert the Excel sets into nice cards in PDF format too. After that, my biggest project is the normalised Superbowl set which I'm still hoping to finish this year, and I need to get my card creators into a state where I could possibly share them on the site.

And the biggest news of all is that I've joined the UK Statis Pro league, which is a very long running event run by Cliff McBain. I've just picked up some nice players in free agency and the draft is being held in a couple of weeks time. I'll be adding a load of league related stuff to this site and giving you plenty of reports as the action unfolds.

27th February - 2005

Just adding some stuff that's been sat in my inbox for a while. Thanks to Eugene Marconi for pointing out some errors with the official 1957 throwback set, I've now added the errata page to the 1957 zip for future downloads or you can download the errata file on its own if you're on a slow connection. Thanks also to Adam Mclean for his "Worst Teams" set #1 which I've added to the cards page, and includes some of the more ability-challenged teams from the modern era. Good for a changeup from playing the powerhouses!

Oh, I'll be getting the typing pool back up and running in the summer if not sooner, and the normalised all-time Superbowl set will be a thing of true beauty so watch out for that one!

9th January - 2005

A very quick update to the cards, I've posted the Advanced Kickoff cards, which more accurately reflect the average kickoff distance of each team, plus the special teams coverage based on average return yards given up. Rules are included with the cards, you can download the extra kickoff cards only (21kB) as a PDF, or download the whole NFL season set with the kickoff cards included. The card/rules gives a custom chart for each team to determine points of return, plus a modifier to the return teams run number based on its kickoff coverage. Let me know what you think, I believe this is an area that needed to be fixed as it makes a big difference as to what kind of field positions a team typically gives up on its kickoffs, rather than just using a generic chart for all teams

7th January - 2005

Happy New Year to everyone, and what a fantastic year 2004 was, especially as the Boston Red Sox won the World Series at last. Also, Joe Gibbs returned to the Redskins and despite a miserable 6-10 record this year, the defense was awesome and I'm sure coach Gibbs will turn things around and bring back the glory days to the Redskins. Anyway, I have posted the 2004 season cards for your perusal - please let me know what you think, it's always nice to get a bit of appreciation, it took me pretty much an entire day to get them done. You'll notice that because the playoffs aren't finished yet, some cards will get altered later. For those of you who get a bit swamped with the usual card sets, I have also separated out the cards for all 12 playoff teams, putting them together so you can print them out easily one team at a time. For those of you doing a playoff preview this should be a lot easier for you. Let me know if you find any serious mistakes, no doubt some of them slipped through the net. Enjoy the cards!

I will probably not have much time to do much with the site until the summer months, but I will update the 2004 cards once the playoffs are over, and also include any bug fixes etc. At least you have something to be going on with for now. I do intend to get the typing pool completed, as well as finish the normalised Superbowl Special set. Oh yes, and I haven't forgotten the baseball site, I just never seem to find the time to work on it properly

still to sort out....

more Pre-1980 Sets. Also the other sets from 1992 onwards that I didn't do, I will convert to my system in PDF files for easier printing

We also have some guys working on things like the seasons from Superbowl 1 onwards [1966 done], as well as guys working on USFL, XFL, WFL and NFL Europe seasons

I'll be doing the post season sets too, including very detailed advanced sets for each Superbowl Team in history, including extra stats and mods, plus solitaire rules

Full Solitaire system from Jim Gordon, Custom and Advanced Rules section, FAC deck PDF, Custom Card Creation Templates. Some Windows dialog applications with various uses, some All time sets, great players and teams from history, and some exciting developments for an all new game based loosely on Statis Pro but hopefully a lot more accurate, detailed and extendable.

A dice based system for Statis Pro too, and of course some actual replay games, notes and tournaments!

I am also working on ways to get the official 1980-1991 sets online here, either via scanning or hand inputting of data.

I am also going through the Yahoo group for Statis Pro and collating all the posts together in a more lucid form by subject and thread, a lot of neat ideas in there and some good discussions so I'll have that posted shortly.
